Hey! We didn't intend on getting a car yet... but we did. Our beloved 1988 Mercedes is now on its last legs, and we were just looking... I swear!
We went into a dealership yesterday, just intending to look and to see if we could get approved for a loan for the car, and we wound up absolutely adoring a 2006 Nissan Altima.
I have always been a little hesitant to go into car dealerships, as obviously I will not be the one driving; but I know money and finance and I know budgets. My biggest fear was that they would treat me like I don't know anything (which is true enough about cars). But they treated me with incredible respect, answered all my questions, and we walked away agreeing the purchase the car! We did a whole bunch of research when we got home and it just confirmed everything. Very few probs with the car, everyone we know who has Nissans loves them... we couldn't be happier. We take the car home on Wednesday!
Congratulations.
And yes, I've noted dealers treat women a whole lot better, in the past fifteen years. Lots of the salespeople themselves are women, so, things are a-changin' in that department.
Anyway congrats again, it's really hard to make that kind of purchase, and commit to that level of depreciation we all face with automobiles. Congrats!
LOL thanks, Leo,
It was more the my being blind thing that I was worried about. Hehehe
Hope you got a decent interest rate on the car. They always try to snag you on that. I was supposed to "blindly" sign up for 15% annual interest rate, even if I had good credit score, I mangaed to cut that pretty much in half just by threatening to walk away.
Also keep in mind that if you get a car loan you will pay higher insurance rates, as you have to ensure your own car as well as any damage you may do to other drivers. Make sure to comparison shop, we got our insurance for around $100 a month to $45 a month by shopping around (in the U.S. .. Canada may have simpler systems, I believe they have no fault insurance up there).
That being said, congrats, new cars are fun, even if they aren't brand new, and a good reliable car is such a luxury.
Well Musician, it sounds like you made a very informed decision. Congratulations. I hope it works well for you both.
Hey, B,
We actually had to go with a pretty high interest rate because my husband doesn't have very good credit. I don't mind paying it for the simple reason that I have decided we're gonna pay it off sooner *grins*
We will be shopping around for different insurance... I think our insurance rate is up for reneweal in June, so I plan on doing some research right now.
Guardian, I am very excited about this! :) I thought I would be scared about the money involved, but I am really not... which is awesome!
